Pedro Sotto Mayor tem 23 anos. É licenciado em economia na Univ. Católica do Porto, onde hoje é professor assistente. Aos 10 anos descobriu que fazia contas a uma velocidade única, tendo arrebatado, desde então, um título de campeão nacional e vários de campeão regional do Jogo do 24, um jogo que testa precisamente a rapidez do raciocínio matemático. É capaz de resolver 40 cartões deste jogo em 25,92’, numa média de 0,65’ para cada um. Com ele, a expressão “contas à moda do Porto” ganha um novo sentido. Aplicado, empreendedor, especial, e com características que fazem dele um caso único, a sua personalidade confunde-se com a da cidade onde nasceu, estudou e onde trabalha actualmente, e pela qual dá agora a cara.

Pedro Sotomayor is 23 years old. He has got a university degree in economics, Univ. Católica do Porto, where he is now an assistant professor. At the age of 10 he found that he was able to count at an exceptionally high speed. Since then, he was awarded the title of national champion and several of regional champion at the "Jogo do 24", a game that challenges precisely the speed of mathematical reasoning. Pedro can solve 40 cards of this game in 25.92 ', an average of 0.65' each. For him, the expression "Contas à Moda do Porto" (Porto way accounts) takes on a new meaning. Miguel Neiva é o designer portuense autor do ColorADD, um sistema de identificação de cores para daltónicos considerado pela revista Galileu "uma das 40 ideias que vão mudar o mundo". Este sistema parte da associação das cores primárias, e também do preto e do branco, a formas geométricas simples, cuja conjugação permite a identificação de cores, tons, brilhos e misturas. Uma solução sustentada, universal, fácil de apreender, com custos de aplicação reduzidos e que pode ter as mais variadas aplicações.

Miguel Neiva, a designer from Porto, created ColorADD, a system of colour identification for colour blind people, considered by the Galileu magazine "one of the 40 ideas that will change the world". This system is based on the association of primary colours, as well as black and white, with simple geometrical forms, allowing to identify colours, shades, brightness and mixtures. A sustained and universal solution, easy to apprehend, with low application costs and that can be used in varied ways.

Actualmente trabalha na Reitoria da Universidade do Porto, num estágio integrado no Programa ERASMUS, depois de já ter estudado em França ao abrigo do mesmo Programa. Do Porto, onde já se sente em casa, gosta da língua, da gastronomia, da simpatia e abertura das suas gentes, do mar e da vida académica. Born in Poland 25 years ago, Agatha Dampc moved to Dortmund, Germany, at the age of three. As part of the ERASMUS program for student exchange Agatha stayed in France and is now working at the Deanery of the University of Porto. She feels pretty much at home in Porto, loves the ocean, the food and the language, the kindness and honesty of the locals and she thoroughly enjoys student life. In life she enjoys music, going out with her friends, learning new languages and getting new cities and countries under her belt. Cheerful, witty and determined, her character seemingly blends with the mood of this city that already swept her of her feet and for which she is now giving her face.

Júnior nasceu em Cabo Verde, onde fazia esculturas em pedra inspiradas na festa de São João. A viver há 6 anos no Porto, onde estudou Hotelaria, é hoje chef num restaurante na Baixa, tendo passado antes pelo da Casa da Música. A sua especialidade é a cozinha de fusão. Do Porto gosta da soma das pequenas partes que o compõem e que o tornam uma cidade única. É apaixonado pela família, por futebol e pela profissão que escolheu, e para a qual se inspirou no talento culinário da mãe e avó. Emotivo, criativo e apreciador da boa gastronomia, a sua personalidade confunde-se com a cidade pela qual agora dá a cara e na qual se sente como um peixe na água.

Junior was born in Cape Verde, and there he would create stone sculptures inspired by the festival of São João. He moved to Porto six years ago to study Hotel Management and today, after a spell at the Casa da Música restaurant, he is the Chef of a restaurant in Baixa, central Porto. His pièce de résistance is fusion. Junior loves the unique patchy nature of Porto. Passionate about his family, football and the profession he decided to pursue, stirred by his mother and grandmother’s talent for cooking. Emotional, creative and a connoisseur of good food, his character is at one with the city he now represents and where he feels like a fish in water.

Joana Costa nasceu no Porto há 19 anos. A sua paixão foi, desde cedo, a prática de Orientação, uma modalidade desportiva que consiste em encontrar o melhor itinerário, em terreno desconhecido, numa luta constante contra o tempo, exigindo um elevado grau de concentração e rapidez. Detentora de vários títulos nacionais e internacionais, e com o Campeonato do Mundo no pensamento, Joana conjuga o estatuto de atleta de alta competição, com o de estudante do 2.º ano de Ciências Farmacêuticas na UP. Original from Porto, the nineteen-year-old Joana Costa has from early days been passionate about Orienteering, a sport that consists on finding the best path through unknown terrain in the least amount of time possible, it requiring concentration and speed. With several local and international titles under her belt she is setting her sights on the World Orienteering Championships. Joana is not only a high performance athlete; she is also a Pharmacy undergraduate student at the University of Porto. Joana has an adventurous, eclectic and inquisitive personality on a par with the city she now represents and where she never loses her bearings.

Ana Neto and Joana Lima are the soul, the brains and the hands of SPOT, a company that became the genesis for many of the undertakings that have been changing the face and attitude of the city. Flea Market Porto and O Mercado are fine examples of their entrepreneurial spirit. They met whilst living in Barcelona and from there they brought along the inspiration and the will to create a “sense of happening” in Porto. SALTO
Guilherme Tomé Ribeiro e Luís Montenegro têm ambos 21 anos, são primos e estudaram guitarra clássica e jazz no conservatório de música, tendo tirado também o curso de música na ESMAE. O seu percurso de vida esteve desde sempre ligado à música, ou não fosse o pai do Luís pianista, o pai do Guilherme guitarrista (amador) e a avó pianista de jazz. Hoje integram a banda “Salto”, uma banda de pop eletrónico com influências de jazz, clássica e eletrónica, que em 2010 passou pela iniciativa da cidade “Música na Rua”, e que hoje atua nos mais conceituados festivais de música do país. Cantam sempre em português, com letras e músicas originais, e feitas sobretudo para serem dançadas. Criativos, bem humorados e talentosos, dão agora o rosto pela cidade que lhes serviu de palco e que hoje se orgulha de ainda os ter por cá!!

At the age of twenty one, cousins Guilherme Tomé Ribeiro and Luís Montenegro are graduates of the Conservatory of Music in classical and Jazz Guitar, having both also graduated from the Music Course at ESMAE. Music runs in the family for Luis’ father was a Pianist and Guilherme’s played the Guitar while his grandmother was a Jazz Pianist. They are now part of the band “Salto”, playing a breed of electronic pop routed in Jazz and Classical, as seen on “Música na Rua” 2010 and more of late in some of the major music festivals in the land. They sing their own material in Portuguese and their music is made for the dance floor. Creative, high spirited and talented, they fly the flag for the city that has been their stage and that is proud they chose to stay around, for now...
JOANA PROVIDÊNCIA e CATARINA OLIVEIRA
Joana Providência é coreógrafa e vive no Porto onde já trabalhou com diversas companhias de Teatro, nomeadamente com o “ACE/Teatro do Bolhão” onde é atualmente membro da Direção Artística e professora de Movimento na respetiva Escola das Artes. Nos seus muitos trabalhos coreográficos, desenvolve uma linguagem pessoal de composição, onde privilegia a relação intérprete/coreógrafo. Para ela a coreografia é como um jogo de xadrez, no qual cada peça contracena com outra, e onde algumas se anulam para dar força e vida às restantes, coabitando, observando-se mutuamente, num movimento constante onde a boca se cala, dando lugar ao corpo que, desta forma, exprime as suas memórias e os seus sentimentos, na linguagem universal do movimento, e num determinado tempo e espaço. Catarina Oliveira foi aluna de Joana, tendo já terminado o curso de interpretação na Academia Contemporânea do Espetáculo e estando agora a frequentar o Curso Superior de Teatro. Sensíveis, fortes, talentosas, criativas e determinadas, dão agora o rosto pela cidade que lhes serve de palco e que as inspira a continuar!

Joana Providência is a choreographer, based in Porto, here she has been practising her trade with a handful of different theatre companies and namely the ACE Teatro do Bolhão of which she has a seat as Art Director and as lecturer on Motion at the aforementioned theatre’s school of arts. On her recent work she developed an intimate style of composing, focusing on a two-way relationship between choreographer and actor. Joana believes choreography is like a chess game on which each piece has a bond with the others and some will have to give way so that others might succeed, it is an unrelenting motion, the mouth becomes silent and the body takes over to convey memories and emotions in the universal language of motion. At one point in space and time Catarina Oliveira, a graduate of the Academia Contemporânea do Espetáculo and presently a student at the Curso Superior de Teatro, was one of Joana’s pupils. Sensitive, strong, talented, innovative and steadfast, they show their faces for this city that is both their stage and their inspiration.
ANABELA DIAS e TERESA GUIMARÃES
Anabela Dias, nasceu em Lisboa, mas vive no Porto há muitos anos. Tem colaborado com ilustrações para livros infantis, didáticos e poesia, diversas edições destinadas a crianças e outras publicações generalistas. Em criança era constante o seu desejo para desenhar, e muita a vontade de não se restringir apenas às folhas de papel! Um dia a avó deu-lhe um giz e disse-lhe que lhe dava também a porta da entrada da casa para ela desenhar, um episódio marcante que ainda hoje recorda com intensidade. Para ela uma ilustração não deve apenas descrever um texto. Deve contar muito mais. Deve promover uma nova história, provocar questões, transmitir bons valores, abrir dúvidas e abrir conversas em casa e em família…
Teresa Guimarães nasceu e estudou no Porto. O sonho de escrever esteve desde sempre presente, tendo acabado por ganhar asas e vida para além da sua imaginação, nos livros que acabou por ter mesmo de escrever.
Juntas já criaram dois livros, entre os quais A MENINA DE PAPEL, uma das mais recentes aquisições da Biblioteca Internacional da Juventude, na Alemanha, conhecida por ser a maior biblioteca do mundo na área infanto-juvenil: sonhadoras, inspiradas e bem-humoradas, dão agora o rosto pela cidade que ilustra uma parte da colorida e animada história das suas vidas!

Years have passed since Anabela Dias, who was born in Lisbon, picked Porto to become her home town. She has been creating illustrations for poetry, school and children’s books as well as many other publications. Devoted to drawing since an early age she wouldn’t stick to paper alone! Anabela is still passionate when she revisits the day her granny gave her some blackboard chalk and told her she could have the front door as her canvas. In her mind an illustration is not just an add-on to the text, it should be much more, it should enfold other stories, perk up questions, convey good values, create honest doubt and stir up family conversations...
Teresa Guimarães was born and bred in Porto. The dream of becoming a writer was there from the beginning, it eventually took off and in the books she wrote it took her to places beyond her imagination. She regularly visits schools for the sheer joy of telling stories and playing with words. Pages upon pages of her papers are filled with many of her favourite kind of stories, Tales.
Anabela and Teresa are keen mommy bears, so far they created two books for children, one of which, A MENINA DE PAPEL, was recently purchased by the International Youth Library in Germany, renowned for holding the largest collection of children’s books in the world. Visionary, inspired, forward looking and funny, they are now the new faces of the city that gives colour and animation to the lively story of their lives
ISABEL BARROS e MARIONETA DOS GIRASSÓIS
Isabel Barros nasceu, vive e trabalha no Porto, onde dirige o balleteatro, do qual é também co-fundadora. Estudou Teatro e Dança, no Porto e Paris. É coreógrafa, intérprete, programadora, formadora e consultora artística em projetos nacionais e internacionais. Num futuro, que é já “amanhã", vai inaugurar e dirigir o Museu de Marionetas do
Porto, dedicado a essas criaturas que vê como uma extensão do ser humano, dada a possibilidade que têm, devido à sua leveza e capacidade de suspensão, de fazerem coisas que um corpo humano não consegue "… uma marioneta pode voar!”, afirma. Assim acontece com a marioneta que aparece em primeiro plano neste cartaz, concebida por Júlio Vanzeller, usada no espetáculo O Mundo de Alex, de João Paulo Seara Cardoso e que reside no Museu de Marionetas do Porto, de onde poderá voar, sempre que alguém para isso a convocar. Para Isabel, as marionetas são ainda uma metáfora da vida e da morte, existindo ou deixando de existir, através da vida que lhes é emprestada temporariamente, por quem as manipula.
Abraça os projetos em que acredita com o coração nas mãos, a cabeça nas nuvens, mas também com os pés bem assentes no chão… Forte mas sensível, apaixonada mas ponderada, sonhadora mas realista, criativa e dedicada ao público a que afinal se destinam todos os seus projetos, a sua personalidade confunde-se com a da cidade que também a inspira e obriga a continuar.

Born and raised in Porto, here is where Isabel Barros lives and works directing the Balletteatro which she also co-founded. She studied Theatre and Dance, both in Porto and Paris. Isabel manages to choreograph, perform, manage, lecture and advise on several Portuguese and international projects. In future, well... tomorrow actually, she will open and preside to the Teatro de Marionetas do Porto, dedicated to those creatures she sees as extensions to the human body due to their lightness and their ability to float, to do things the human body cannot.”... a puppet can fly!” Isabel maintains. And so it can, and that is exactly what the puppet created by Júlio Vanzeller and featured on the forefront of this poster does. It was built for the show O Mundo de Alex, by João Paulo Seara Cardoso, and now roosts at the Museu de Marionetas do Porto, from where it takes flight whenever it is summoned. Isabel sees puppets as a metaphor for life and death, to be or not to be, a precarious life subject to the will and the hands of the puppeteer.
Isabel embraces each project she believes in with her heart on her sleeve and her head in the clouds though her feet stay firmly on the ground... Strong but kind, passionate but wise, dreaming but never losing grip from reality she creates for her audience, always for her audience, her personality is at one with this city that inspires her and pushes her to carry on.
PAULO LOBO e ANTÓNIO COELHO
Paulo Lobo nasceu em Lamego em 1959. Vive e trabalha no Porto há 28 anos. O seu trabalho tem uma grande proximidade com a área de design de interiores mas, na verdade, é um autodidata, tendo iniciado a sua carreira num tempo em que nem sequer se falava em design… Vê-se como um criador de atmosferas, um manipulador de materiais cuja beleza está sobretudo na forma como são utilizados… gosta de criar coisas novas, muitas vezes a partir de outras que já existem e só estão à espera de quem as repense, manipule, misture ou simplesmente as coloque no espaço e no tempo certos… Do pai, que vendia tecidos, herdou o prazer pela observação de texturas, cores e padrões, mas também o gosto pela música, tantos foram os concertos a que juntos assistiram no Rivoli… gosto que mantém até hoje, e que se abre a todas as gerações… Aos 12 anos já se dedicava a alterar a cor das paredes da casa onde vivia, dando azo à vontade que já tinha de mudar e intervir em espaços… António Coelho nasceu em Resende, estudou estilismo no Porto e fez um curso de design de moda em Paris… Vive atualmente na nossa cidade, mas Timor é também a sua casa. Teve desde sempre uma forma muito própria de ver a moda, e que mantém até hoje!
Paulo Lobo tem, com António Coelho, uma história de amizade, empatia e admiração mútuas, tendo sido o António a primeira pessoa a divulgar o seu trabalho e a torná-lo mais conhecido numa fase inicial da sua carreira. Com o Quarteirão de Miguel Bombarda tem também um passado comum, tendo sido o autor da primeira galeria de arte contemporânea deste quarteirão, a Galeria Fernando Santos, bem como da livraria “Assírio e Alvim”.

Paulo Lobo was born in Lamego in 1959. He settled in Porto twenty eight years ago. His work is closely entwined with Interior Design, in fact he is self taught and he began his career in a time designers were unheard of... He sees himself as a creator of atmospheres, a manipulator of objects that are beautiful mainly because of the way they are put together... From his father, a cloth merchant, he inherited the love for textures, colours and patterns, and also the love for music, many a time did they go together to enjoy concerts at Rivoli... and he still loves it to this day. At the age of twelve he had already began to change the colours of the walls in his home thus letting loose his desire to change his surroundings
Antonio Coelho was born in Resende. He studied Fashion Design in Porto and Couture Design in Paris. Presently based in Porto he also calls East Timor his home. He always had a unique outlook on fashion and he keeps it to this day!
Paulo Lobo and Antonio Coelho share a long history of friendship, empathy and esteem for one another, it was Antonio who first exhibited Paulo’s work early in his career. In Miguel Bombarda their paths also meet when he opened the first gallery for contemporary art in this famous arty quarter, the Galeria Fernando Santos as well as the Assírio & Alvim bookshop.
Friends, imaginative, unique and relentless, their personalities are at one with the city that has long been an inspiration for both of them and which is proud to have them.
